This will be my Eleventh year of teaching in the Hopkins County School District. I am so glad to be part of "Team Hopkins" and excited about the upcoming school year!
I direct two Choirs at MNHHS; Concert Choir (open to all grades 9-12 North students) and the Chamber Choir (an auditioned choir). Though the choirs are constantly performing throughout the year I will highlight two main events. In December we will be performing a Madrigal Dinner at Olive Branch Baptist Church. This performance has been a traditional favorite. Also, in the Spring we will be preparing for our Spring tour TBA in the near future. In 2019, the Chamber Choir traveled to Chicago where they earned a Gold Rating at the Chicago Heritage Festival. Students had a marvelous time touring the Navy Pier, the Medieval Times, and the Chicago Zoo, not to mention experiencing Chicago during St. Patricks Day with it's green water river.
This will be the fifth year for the Chamber Choir Booster Club. All parents of Chamber Choir are automatic members of this organization. Following is the 2019-20 Executive Counsel and all questions, concerns, and ideas should be directed to them:
- President: Brandi Jones
- Vice President: Jackie Clemmons
- Treasurer: Diana Luck
- Secretary: Kelley Cates
The first Chamber Booster Club meeting is set for August 15, 2019 from 6:30-7PM in Room 45(Chorus Room).
Chamber Singers & parents make sure you are signed up for the MNHHS Chamber Choir remind & GroupMe pages which will be used to pass on information and celebration of accomplishments. There is also Remind (MNHHS Concert Choir) for students and parents in Concert Choir and all the JMMS Choirs. This is a very useful tool to communicate dates and pertinent information to students and parents in all the High School and Junior High Choirs.
At JMMS, I am the Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Grade Choir Director and currently the room is overflowing! With the addition of the 6th Grade Chorus last year I have decided to do a Veterans Day Concert where we will be honoring all those past and present heroes who have served our country and communities so valiantly. In March the choirs will participate in the Hopkins County Choral Festival and in April the Choirs will compete in the KMEA Large Group Assessment in Owensboro, KY. In 2019 both 7th & 8th Grade Choirs brought home distinquished ratings. I will be looking for parents to help chaperone this trip. If you would like to be chaperone, please contact Ms. Iverson.
Finally, be on the lookout for information handouts that your child will be bringing home detailing the fundraising activities that have been scheduled to begin August 29, 2019.
Please find attached the Chorus Syllabus on the resource page for each chorus class.
