Vaccine Opportunities for Students

Pfizer Covid Vaccine has now been approved for 12-18 year olds. The Hopkins County Health Department RNs at the schools will offer this vaccine the week of May 17 at school. Consent forms and information sheets will be sent out on Thursday, May 13, and Friday, May 14. Please return them to school completed if you want the RN to give your child the vaccine.

Hopkins County Health Department shared the following reasons to vaccinate children:

  • Most children do well with Covid infection, but a small percentage develop Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C).
    • Heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes or gastrointestinal organs can become inflamed.
  • Children who are vaccinated cannot spread the virus to at-risk family members.
  • Children who are vaccinated will not cause the parents to be quarantined and miss work.
  • Children who are vaccinated will not be ill or be quarantined and miss school or sports.
  • Two weeks after full immunization children can attend school and play sports after an exposure with no quarantine.
  • School will be more normal.
  • Sports will be more normal.
  • Children did extremely well in the clinical vaccine trials.
